ACCESS LISTS - Standard access lists & Extended access lists

Posted in ACCESS LISTS, Extended access lists, Standard access lists at 8:17 pm by admin

Access lists are configured on the Ethernet or serial ports of a router to control incoming or outgoing traffic. Access lists configured on Ethernet port controls the incoming traffic while those configured on serial ports control the outgoing traffic.

They are of 2 types.

  1. Standard access lists
  2. Extended access lists

For standard access lists, the list numbers are from 1-99, where as for extended access list, they are from 100-199. The difference between the two lies in the variety of fields in the packet that are compared for matching.
